Nanotechnology Consumption

nanotechfoodLately, there have been a growing number of individuals, organizations, and countries pushing to ban or label genetically modified organisms (GMO), or organisms whose genetic material has been altered using genetic engineering techniques.

Many of the organisms that have been genetically modified include microorganisms such as bacteria and yeast, insects, plants, fish, and mammals. GMOs are the source of genetically modified foods, and are also widely used in scientific research and to produce goods other than food.

This brings you to the question of this post: Are you aware of utilization and health concerns of NANOTECHNOLOGY in many of the foods and products you use or consume?

nanofoods_chart_large1Nanotechnology, or nanotech, is the manipulation of matter on an atomic and molecular scale. Nanotechnology may be able to create many new materials and devices with a vast range of applications, such as in medicine, electronics, biomaterials and energy production, but nanotechnology also raises many of the same issues as any new technology, including concerns about the toxicity and environmental impact of nano-materials, and their potential effects on global economics.

Researchers have found that when rats breathed in nanoparticles, the particles settled in the brain and lungs, which led to significant increases in biomarkers for inflammation and stress response and that nanoparticles induce skin aging through oxidative stress in hairless mice. A two-year study at UCLA’s School of Public Health found lab mice consuming nano-titanium dioxide showed DNA and chromosome damage to a degree linked to all the big killers of man, namely cancer, heart disease, neurological disease and aging.

The Devil's Excrement

Observations focused on the problems of an underdeveloped country, Venezuela, with some serendipity about the world (orchids, techs, science, investments, politics) at large. A famous Venezuelan, Juan Pablo Perez Alfonzo, referred to oil as the devil's excrement. For countries, easy wealth appears indeed to be the sure path to failure. Venezuela might be a clear example of that.
