2011 Pacific Harmony Honolulu Festival (March 11 – 13, 2011)

The 17th Annual Honolulu Festival is Hawaii’s premier cultural event, promoting understanding, economic cooperation and ethnic harmony between the people of Hawaii and the Pacific Rim region. The Festival’s theme, “Pacific Harmony,” reflects the Foundation’s vision to share the many cultures of the Pacific region with the people of Hawaii and those visiting from all over the world.

Each year, the Festival draws thousands of new and returning spectators who are looking for an experience beyond Hawaii. More than 5,000 participants and visitors from Japan and other Pacific Rim countries will come to Honolulu specifically to take part in the Festival, giving a boost to Hawai’s tourism economy.

This year, the festival will be held on Friday, March 11th – Sunday, March 13th, 2011 at four different venues: Hawaii Convention Center, Ala Moana Shopping Center, Waikiki Beach Walk and Waikiki Shopping Plaza. Admission to all Festival events is free, ensuring that everyone can take part in the festivities.

The three day extravaganza features performances and traditional art demonstrations by artisans from Japan, Australia, Tahiti, Philippines, Republic of China (Taiwan), Korea, Hawaii and the rest of the United States.

The Honolulu Festival concludes with a Grand Parade through the streets of Waikiki on the afternoon of March 13th, 2011. In addition, Japan’s internationally renowned Nagaoka Fireworks display from Niigata Prefecture will be displayed on Sunday, March 13, 2011 after the Honolulu Festival Grand Parade to be held in Waikiki, down Kalakaua Avenue. The fireworks will be launched from the waters off Waikiki Beach.

The Devil's Excrement

Observations focused on the problems of an underdeveloped country, Venezuela, with some serendipity about the world (orchids, techs, science, investments, politics) at large. A famous Venezuelan, Juan Pablo Perez Alfonzo, referred to oil as the devil's excrement. For countries, easy wealth appears indeed to be the sure path to failure. Venezuela might be a clear example of that.
